Amidst the historic walls of Bugembe Palace, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, issued a rallying cry to his people: embrace the upcoming national census, set to commence on May 10, 2024.
In a significant meeting with Dr. Chris Mukiza, the esteemed Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), the Kyabazinga underscored the importance of census participation in fostering inclusive development and equitable governance. “Let us stand united in support of the census, for it is through our collective engagement that we can pave the way for targeted interventions and progress,” urged the monarch.
Expressing gratitude for UBOS’s partnership, the Kyabazinga warmly welcomed the establishment of a dedicated statistical office at the kingdom headquarters, recognizing its potential to empower local authorities with invaluable insights for evidence-based decision-making.
Dr. Mukiza echoed the sentiment, reaffirming UBOS’s commitment to conducting a transparent and inclusive census process. Emphasizing data security, Mukiza assured, “Our utmost priority is protecting the confidentiality of all data collected, with robust measures in place to safeguard privacy.”
As anticipation grew for the digital census, Mukiza unveiled innovative measures to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Enumerators will be equipped with identification tags featuring QR codes, facilitating seamless verification and reducing the risk of fraud.
Furthermore, in a gesture of collaboration and capacity-building, UBOS pledged to establish a dedicated statistics office unit at the kingdom headquarters, equipped with essential resources and staffed by locally nominated statisticians. This collaborative effort aims to empower the Busoga Kingdom with the tools and expertise necessary for informed decision-making and sustainable development.
As the countdown to the census commenced, the partnership between UBOS and the Busoga Kingdom exemplified a shared commitment to leveraging data for the betterment of all residents, heralding a new era of inclusive governance and progress.
