September Sports Awards Honor Uganda’s Finest: Muhangi, Assimwe, Matovu, and Ariho Celebrated
The September Sports Awards celebrated an array of outstanding athletes across multiple disciplines, reflecting the diverse talent in Uganda’s sports landscape. The posthumous recognition of Uganda’s 1999 Africa Rally Champion was a highlight of the event, with his widow, Patience Muhangi, accepting the award on behalf of the family, marking his lasting legacy in Ugandan motorsport. In football, Herbert Assimwe of Wakiso Giants took the top honor for his exceptional scoring spree in the Uganda Premier League and Airtel Masaza Cup. Boxer Herbert Matovu claimed the Boxer of September accolade after knocking out Tanzania’s Kheri Mbaruku in the Africa Boxing Union Regional Title bout. Finally, Isaac Ariho dominated the woodball category, leading Uganda Prisons to their third straight Woodball League win with a series of commanding performances. These awards not only highlight individual achievements but also underscore Uganda’s growing prowess across a range of sports, from motorsport to football, boxing, and woodball.
