Rally Legend Charles Muhangi Posthumously Awarded Lifetime Achievement Award at Fortebet Real Stars Sports Awards

In a heartfelt tribute, Uganda’s rallying legend Charles Muhangi was posthumously honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award during the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards for September 2024. Muhangi, who passed away in 2018, remains the first and only Ugandan to have won the Africa Rally Championship (ARC), achieving the feat in 1999 and securing his place as one of Uganda’s most iconic sports figures.

The award was accepted by his widow, Petience Muhangi, at the ceremony held at Lazo Restaurant in Kololo on October 8, 2024. Muhangi’s enduring legacy continues to inspire new generations of motorsport enthusiasts in Uganda.

Football: Herbert Assimwe’s Outstanding Form Earns Footballer of the Month Award

Herbert Assimwe, a talented forward for Wakiso Giants, was crowned Footballer of the Month for his outstanding contributions in the Startimes Uganda Premier League. Nicknamed “Camavinga,” Assimwe scored in every game he played throughout September, including crucial goals against Mbale Heroes, Brightstars, and a brace against Maroons.

His exceptional form also shone in the Airtel Masaza Cup, where he added two more goals to his tally for Buwekula, surpassing stiff competition from Said Mayanja of KCCA FC and Enock Ssebagala of NEC FC.

In his speech, Assimwe thanked his teammates, saying, “This award is a reflection of our hard work as a team. I dedicate this to my family at Wakiso Giants—the Purple Sharks.”

Boxing: Herbert Matovu Knocks Out Rival to Secure Boxing Accolade

In the boxing category, Herbert Matovu delivered a knockout performance in the Africa Boxing Union (ABU) regional title fight, defeating Tanzania’s Kheri Mbaruku in the first round. The event, held at YMCA on September 7, 2024, saw Matovu emerge as the clear winner, securing him the Boxer of the Month title for September.

Matovu’s victory placed him ahead of other top performers in the Uganda Boxing Champions League, including Ukasha Matovu and Owen Kibira.

Woodball: Isaac Ariho Guides Uganda Prisons to Woodball League Glory

Isaac Ariho claimed the Woodball Player of the Month title after leading Uganda Prisons to their third consecutive Woodball League championship. Ariho’s impressive run throughout September saw him win six of his seven matches, including a 7-0 shutout of Fred Turyakira at Luzira. He capped off the month with key victories over Simon Peter Otim and Delick Ankunda at Makerere University.

Ariho also excelled in doubles, teaming up with Abednego Okello and Isaac Nabugere to secure wins against top pairs from KIU and KU.
