Any attempt to seize Kharg Island could trigger a wide-ranging response from Iran, potentially drawing the entire region into conflict.
Iran has repeatedly warned that it would retaliate against US interests and allies in the region. Possible targets include military bases in Gulf countries such as Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
In addition, critical civilian infrastructure—such as oil refineries, ports, and desalination plants—could also be at risk. Such attacks would not only escalate the conflict but also have serious humanitarian and economic consequences.
Experts warn that once a ground operation begins, controlling escalation becomes extremely difficult. Even limited clashes could quickly spiral into a broader regional war.
